“Ban RSS, impose severe sanctions” Jagmeet Singh urges Trudeau Govt amid India-Canada diplomatic row
Ottawa (Canada) October 16 (ANI): The leader of Canada's New Democratic Party, Jagmeet Singh, on Tuesday (October 15) called for sanctions on Indian diplomats and a ban on the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), a Hindu nationalist group, as relations between the two countries worsened over the murder of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.
"I don't want the Indian government or Modi to think they've got someone in Canada who's willing to look the other way to ignore what's going on," Singh said. India and Canada expelled six of each other's diplomats in tit-for-tat moves after Ottawa accused Indian government agents of links to the 2023 murder of the Sikh separatist leader near Vancouver. India denied the accusations, describing them as part of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's "political agenda". Relations between the two countries have been fraught since last year, when Trudeau said he had evidence linking Indian agents to the assassination.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they had significant information on broad criminal activity orchestrated by agents of the government of India and used to target members of the South Asian community in Canada.
