Massive fire destroys Corfu business
A fire that started in a chicken coop at 9079 Alleghany road about 5:40 this morning spread to a barn a few feet away and took off quickly, engulfing a well known business.
Rick Franclemont said a few passerby's alerted his daughter Renee to the fire in the chicken coop. About 20 chickens were inside of the coop at the time.
Renee, who owns the barn and the popular business Primitives and Produce "The Farm", was able to get 11 young chickens away from the blaze. With the help of some firefighters, Renee was able to drag a small chicken coop back to the house.
According to Renee Franclemont there were heat lamps operating in the chicken coop at the time of the fire.
According to Corfu Fire Chief Dean Eck, hay stored on the second story of the barn also fueled the fire.
The coop and the barn were a total loss.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Genesee County Emergency Management Office and the Corfu Fire Department.
