My mom loved playing the piano and all things music, but she wasn't given the opportunity to take many lessons and didn't get to fulfill her dream. Naturally when I came on the scene she had me taking piano, violin, viola, flute, and eventually organ lessons. When I was about 12 years old I was finally advanced enough to learn her favorite piece on the piano, Christian Sinding's "Rustle of Spring." It's hard to top the feeling it gave me to be able to bring her happiness in that way. It's amazing how the brain holds on to music, because last week I decided to see if I could still remember how to play it by memory; it's rusty, but after a few tries I was able to play it all the way through so many years later.
