This is the On Target 600 gallon electrostatic orchard sprayer. This sprayer delivers 30 gallons per acre in a fully leafed out mature orchard, allowing the spray operator to cover 20 acres on a single tank fill and making it one of the most efficient orchard sprayers on the market.
This particular unit was outfitted with a Smart Guided intelligent spray control system, which utilizes Lidar- a light detecting and ranging sensor that creates 3-D models of the crop canopy. This information is fed into algorithms which allow the control system to regulate the liquid flow to the nozzles, depending on the canopy height, spacing, and density.
As you can see, this newly planted pecan orchard in Georgia has large gaps between trees which are just a few feet tall. Accordingly, only the lower spray manifold come on, and for very brief intervals, decreasing the amount of water and material applied even further.
