Each named fig variety grown today can be traced back to a single-source mother tree or "sport" that has been propagated by cuttings (cloning) over many years, making each named variety genetically identical. The fig featured in this video is Martinenca Rimada, and every true Martinenca Rimada fig tree can be traced back to a single tree: a mutated "sport" of a Martinenca fig tree years, maybe even decades, ago.

Despite the fact that each named fig is an identical genetic clone of the original mother, there can be tremendous variability within the genetic code. In this video, I compare two genetically identical trees that show incredible varying between the two.
