From Chicago welcome to 3Degrees Discussions. I’m your host Dr Mike Vasquez.
This is a podcast devoted to the stories behind the innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders in the 3D Printing industry.
3D Printing has been evolving since the 1980s. Numerous printing platforms, materials, and applications have provided new avenues for manufacturers to prototype, customize and produce end use products. The stories behind these technology advances are often overlooked in the headlines and the aim of these interviews is to provide you---- the listener----- with honest insights and details that you can use in your own career.
Ultimately the 3D Printing industry is not just about the latest machine or application, it is about the people that challenge the status quo, solve hard technical problems, and persevere through challenging business environments. These are the stories that I hope to share with you during the show.
I began my own 3D Printing journey in 2009 when I was an undergrad in Materials Science at MIT. I started looking into the economic implications of using 3D Printing for making shoes. That led to do a PhD focused on Additive Manufacturing at Loughborough University. Alongside some of the top minds in the space we developed new materials for a range of applications including snowboarding. In 2012, I started my own 3D Printing business called 3Degrees. We help companies implement winning 3D Printing solutions through practical insights and materials expertise. In the years since we have worked with over 50 companies and most recently launched a spin out software tool called TRACEam. Born out of inquiries from dozens of leading manufacturers struggling to seamlessly track and store data about each part, TRACEam provides practical, intuitive systems to help companies maximize their investments in advanced manufacturing technologies.
Thank you for listening
