Jayasuriya was instrumental in transforming the modern limited-over game as we know it today. In 1995, Jayasuriya opened Sri Lankan batting along with Romesh Kaluwithara and the rest is history. Within a few months from that, Jayasuriya went on to establish the record for the fastest fifty in ODIs.
Sanath Jayasuriya was renown for having shots all around the wicket. Jayasuriya's weaponry ranges from cut shots over the third man to glances over fine leg. Sanath Jayasuriya can play either on the front foot or the back foot effortlessly. Sanath Jayasuriya played both seamers and spinners equally well. Sanath Jayasuriya had a knack of scoring big hundreds and prolong the inning. Therefore, he could get his opponent pay dearly for missed opportunities like drop catches and run out chances.
