The Parthenon and Acropolis of Athens, Greece are world famous, but the astonishing original site of the marble used for their construction is almost as amazing, and yet largely unknown or visited.
White Pentelic Marble rock for the sculptures and buildings of ancient Greece came from this fantastic place, but it is hard to reach, so is not well known to the tourists, or on the tourist trail, but it should be.
The Davelis cave and the churches on Penteli Mountain 25km from the Acropolis are well worth a visit and have a history and atmosphere I hope is represented in this short video. The Temple of Athena glistens in the sunlight because of the marble used in its construction, and the site of its origin is amazing to visit.
