Thousands of people have taken part as of Monday in battling against a forest fire in Yajiang County of southwest China's Sichuan Province as the blaze has raged on for nine days.
The fire burst out on March 12 in the province's Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.
Local firefighters and residents have spared every effort to put out the wildfire. However, winds that picked up last Friday have fanned the flames higher and sparked fires in new areas.
It has been impossible to transport large equipment to the site as the fires are located at an elevation of 3,700 meters in the mountains.
A total of 110 soldiers rushed to Yajiang County to help control fire on Saturday. Another 90 soldiers came as reinforcements late Sunday. Together with local residents, up to 1,000 people have participated in the fight. The fire was brought under control after nine hours of tough work.
Soldiers and local residents continued to battle the blaze on Monday, to prevent the it from spreading again.
Work to extinguish the fire is still in progress.
