Heavy rain returns to the west of the South Island. Heavy Rain Warnings stretch from northern Fiordland to Westland and over the Main Divide into the headwaters of Canterbury and Otago.
Along with bringing the wet weather northwesterly winds will be bringing warm air across much of New Zealand. The warmest places will be found in the east of the country where temperatures are set to reach into the high twenties.
The band of rainfall moves up the country through the weekend, weakening as it reaches up into the North Island.
