Vedauwoo Recreation Area Camping
The Vedauwoo Recreation Area is between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming. Along with the dispersed camping which we choose, there is also a national forest campground with about 20 sites. We arrived on the Thursday before the Labor Day weekend, and all of the national forest campground sites were full. Just outside of the national forest campground is the dispersed camping. There are many camping spots, and we found one not far down the washboard road.
The dispersed sites are numbered, and you need to camp in a numbered site. We were in site 2, and it was a wonderful sight. We could see people rock climbing. Neither of us attempted that, but it was fun to watch others do it. Many of the campsites are large and rather secluded.
From where we were camped at the Vedauwoo Recreation area. when you head to Laramie, you will see a rest area. The reason we mention it is twofold. First, it has a bunch of interesting stuff you can look at. More importantly, for those of us who do a good bit of dispersed camping, it has potable water.
If you choose to camp in the national forest campground, the amenities you get are a picnic table, fire ring, grill, and vault toilet. There are no hookups. It costs $10 or $5 if you have a senior pass.
