How do we balance our desire to emulate the Divine with passages from the Torah that call for conquest, killing and vengeance?
At the outset of this week’s double portion Matot-Masei, God tells Moses to take revenge against the Midianite people, idolators whose values were a threat to the Israelites.
Rabbi Avi Novis-Deutsch, dean of the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary, says when we find ourselves in a situation where we want to take revenge, we should pause and consider our discomfort. Rather than taking action to harm those who hurt us, we should seek a path to rebuilding the relationship.
Each week, #ShavuaTovAtSchechter presents a new and timely video with insights on the weekly Torah reading from the distinguished faculty of the Schechter Institutes in Jerusalem. View our extensive library of videos and articles at [ Ссылка ].
