Standard form (or scientific notation) is a way to write large numbers and small numbers with a lot of decimal places in a more concise and easier to work with manner. Standard form is written with a number between 1 and 10 multiplied by a power of 10, and this power of 10 will be positive for big numbers and negative for small numbers.
