1. Indian Parliament begins monsoon session
The monsoon session of the Indian parliament has begun. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his hope for high standards of discussion and for important decisions to be made. The goods and services tax is high on the PM’s agenda and is expected to be pushed during the session
2. Parliament to discuss Kashmir
Opposition parties have demanded a discussion on the issue of violence in Jammu and Kashmir over the last one week. The government has accepted the demand. So far 42 people have died and as many as 3,200 have been injured during street demonstrations. These figures include 1500 security personnel
3. Baton rouge: Three policemen shot dead
A former US marine sergeant opened fire on police in baton rouge killing three officers. The attack follows multiple incidents of gun violence in the country including the massacre of five policemen in Dallas last week
4. Turkey crackdown against plotters continues
Turkey is continuing its crackdown against coup plotters and has rounded up at least six thousand people these include many from the country's judiciary. President Erdogan has said that he is committed to removing these 'viruses' from all state institutions
5. Pakistan would celebrate army coup: Imran Khan
Turkey's failed coup has made its presence felt in Pakistan. Imran Khan, the chairman of the Tehreek-e-Insaf party has said that democracy in the country faces threat from the Navaz Sharif government and not from the military. Khan said that the Pakistani people would probably celebrate a military coup
6. Historic victory for Pakistan at Lord's
Yasir Shah spun the national side to a 75-run win over England at Lords in the first test. The spinner's match-haul of 10 wickets saw the team pick up their first win against England at Lords in over twenty years
