National Guard Soldiers assigned to Task Force Mustang are conducting full-spectrum aviation operations while deployed to Camp Buehring, Kuwait.
The aviators are part of Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR), an international coalition to advise, assist, and enable regional partners in the enduring defeat of Da’esh, the Arabic term for the Islamic militant group known as ISIS, in Iraq and northeastern Syria.
The task force’s training missions include aerial gunnery exercises, which help guarantee everyone is adept with their weapons systems and help build the overall effectiveness of the team. These live-fire missions are important for preparing Soldiers for potential engagements while deployed.
Task Force Mustang is comprised of the 36th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB), 36th Infantry Division, Texas Army National Guard; the 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 142nd Aviation Regiment, New York Army National Guard; and the 1st Battalion, 101st aviation regiment. The task force is also providing aviation support to Task Force Spartan of Operation Spartan Shield (OSS).
