You may have seen that I recently picked up a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K to add to my set up. I had a load of old gear knocking around so decided to have a clear out, trade it all in and pick one of these up. I was pretty sure I'd make good use of it and I've always been a fan of the Blackmagic look. As a MFT shooter, I decided the 4K was probably a better fit for me over the 6K. So far so good.
Here's some test footage from my first trip out with the camera. I have a lot to say about it but my first impressions are great - I love the look of the footage, and I think we are going to get on very well.
My good friend and I, Alex Toze (he's a Sony Photographer but we won't hold it against him), headed up to Dartmoor National Park during some wild wintry weather and it was a great opportunity for me to bring the Pocket along and shoot my very first shots with the camera. In a nutshell, I'm really glad I decided to pick one of these up. The cinema camera format seems to work well for me and I think it will slot into my LUMIX micro four thirds set up perfectly.
I have to say, the Blackmagic Design look really is lovely. The colours are a bit different to what I'm used to grading, so I'm going to need a bit of time doing tests and getting used to how the footage behaves before I'll be happy with the look. I'll be tweaking my custom LUT's but for a quick first attempt, this will do.
