World Cup qualifier. Bolivia v Brazil draw 1-1.
Fans booed and whistled the Brazilian team from the field on Sunday (30/6) after they could only draw 1-1 with struggling Bolivia in Sao Paolo. Brazil had already qualified for the World Cup finals with a draw against Paraguay the week before, and were keen to hit top form before their own supporters. Careca gave them the lead after 18 minutes, Careca heading in from a corner. But the home side failed to make better use of many chances in the first half. After the interval Bolivia went onto the attack, and scored a deserved equaliser in the 73rd minute from a Sanchez header following a free kick. Bolivia themselves only had pride to play for - third in South American group three, they had lost all chances fo qualifying for next year's World Cup finals.
