It's been a while since my last uploaded video entirely dedicated to a XX car, but it has been even longer since the last one entirely focused on the Ferrari 599XX Evo (almost 6 years). So here's a big compilation I've put together using a big part of the material my friends and I recorded during the last years.
Ferrari unveiled the 599XX in 2009 as their second, track-only car of the so called XX Programmes, where the most privileged customers have the opportunity to participate in private events with their XX cars and also 'produce' data for Ferrari's research and development purposes during each session. It featured many changes over the standard car in order to make it more nimble and responsive for track use, so a reduced weight, an increase in the max power output (around 730 hp at 9,000 rpm), an improved body work and aero plus the various safety equipments typical of a race car. Being an XX car, it was full of interesting features and technologies to be developed and which could have been used in future brand's road legal models. For example, the car has two fans, located in the trunk, sucking air from the underbody and which is expelled through the two 'fake' tail lights (where the original street-legal 599 GTB has its tail lights). The two fans work to keep the car on the ground until a speed of 249 km/h (155 mph), at which the car needs no additional downforce.
At the end of 2011, the 599XX Evo (Evoluzione or Evolution) was unveiled as an upgrade kit to the 'standard' 599XX. The aesthetic differences were obvious such as a new big and 'active' rear wing, new rear diffuser, front canards, front splitter and side exhausts. The 599XX Evoluzione weighed 35 kg less than the standard 599XX and the 6.0-liter V12 engine had now around 750 hp of max power output and 700 Nm of torque. The ‘active-aero’ is inspired by F1's DRS, whereby two flaps on the rear wing electronically open and close based on factors determined autonomously by the car’s telemetry in live-time. This optimizes the level of downforce for every moment on the race track, effectively increasing grip and managing weight transfer.
