Why numbers four and nine are considered bad luck in Japan? #shorts
Numbers four and nine, are considered very unlucky in Japan. You find sometimes that some parking lots don’t have a a lot with the number four on it. In some other cases you’d find whole apartment buildings that don’t have a 4th floor. The floors just jump from three to five. The same thing goes with nice but to a lesser extent. But why? Why do Japanese people have a bad feeling about these 2 numbers and even avoid using them?
well the number four in Japanese is pronounced ‘Shi’, which is the same pronunciation given to the word ‘death’.
Similarly the number nine is pronounced ‘Ku’, and that is the same pronunciation given to this kanji which means pain, suffering and anguish.
