DayZ's new map, Sakhal, is part of the Frostline DLC, which launched in October 2024. This is DayZ’s first official winter map, inspired by the Sakhalin Island and Kamchatka Peninsula regions of Russia. It's a smaller map, covering 105 km², making it more compact compared to the game's other vanilla maps like Chernarus. The map offers a rugged and cold environment with a focus on survival against both the elements and other players.

The map introduces several new gameplay features, such as dynamic weather, where players will have to manage heat comfort to survive the freezing temperatures. Environmental hazards, such as heavy metal poisoning from contaminated water or snow, add complexity. Additionally, boats have been introduced, allowing players to traverse icy waters, which opens up new areas for exploration and looting.

Sakhal also brings new wildlife like foxes, hares, and reindeer, along with new POIs (points of interest), including caves and improved building interiors. The map's north-to-south layout features a loot progression system, where better gear can be found as players travel south.
