ORGANISED LABOUR IN KOGI STATE HAS CALLED ON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO RELEASE THE SUM OF N30.8 BILLION BEING THE AMOUNT OUTSTANDING FROM THE N50.8 BILLION APPROVED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AS BAILOUT FOR WORKERS IN THE STATE PUBLIC SERVICE
CHAIRMAN OF THE KOGI STATE CHAPTER OF THE NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS, ONUH EDOKA SAID THE BAILOUT FUND WAS APPROVED WHEN IDRIS WADA WAS GOVERNOR BUT ONLY N20 BILLION WAS RELEASED WHEN YAHAYA BELLO ASSUMED OFFICE
EDOKA WHO BRIEFED JOURNALISTS AT THE NLC HOUSE, LOKOJA SAID IF THE BALANCE IS RELEASED STATE WORKERS SALARY ARREARS WILL NO LONGER BE AN ISSUE
HE APPLAUDED GOVERNOR BELLO'S EFFORTS AT PROVIDING SECURITY, NEEDED INFRASTRUCTURE AND KEY UTILITIES, BUT SAID THE GOOD WORK MAY REMAIN UNNOTICED IF SALARIES ARE NOT PAID
THE LABOUR LEADER DESCRIBED KOGI STATE WORKERS AS LAW ABIDING AND SUPPORTIVE OF THE GOVERNMENT, ADDING THAT THE SUPPORT SHOULD BE RECIPROCATED BY THE PAYMENT OF THEIR LONG OVERDUE SALARY ARREARS.
