DOPESHEET
Lithuanian Unesco World Heritage Site 'Curonian Spit' uses sheep to cut grass, because heavy equipment cannot easily access the most beautiful sites.
The first place where sheep will work is the Horn of Bulvikis. It is very difficult to cut grass with usual equipment here. Sheep meanwhile, at the beginning of their duty, successfully ate not only grass, but various brushes as well.
Owner of the sheep Antanas Miezanskas offered services of sheep to Curonian Spit administration for free. His sheep have already cut many private fields which heavy equipment cannot easily access.
Around fifty sheep participate in this experiment until autumn. If it will be successful, more sheep will be transported into Curonian Spit next year.
An Australian Shepard dog will help to coordinate and protect sheep during their work.

Sheep arrive to cut grass
SOUNDBITE (Lithuanian), AUSRA FESER, Chief of Curonian Spit National Park:
We ourselves cannot do all the work with our hands and equipment; we need to look for alternatives. Grass in the Horn of Bulvikis need to be cut every year, and I cannot imagine working with a mower there.

SOUNDBITE (Lithuanian), ANTANAS MIEZANSKAS, owner of sheep:
Usually ten sheep graze one hectare during a season. But in this case the grass seems to be poor, so we think it graze a double.
