신재생 에너지•미래차로 '그린뉴딜' 이끈다... 5년간 73조 투자, 새 일자리 66만개
One of the key pillars of the Korean New Deal is "green" with the aim of responding to climate change while boosting the country's competitiveness in industry.
The environment and trade ministries have laid out detailed plans to make South Korea a so called ' carbon net-zero society'.

South Korea's promising New Deal project is all about digital... and green.
And the government says now is the most appropriate time to speed up to become a carbon net-zero society.
"The Green New Deal aims to overcome both the economic crisis caused by COVID-19 and the climate and environmental crises that caused the pandemic."
The five-year, 61 billion U.S. dollar plan includes transforming old schools into smart, eco-friendly schools.
Topped with solar panels, public schools across the country will have facilities that save energy.
They'll get some 240-thousand tablet computers, and WiFi will be installed at ALL elementary, middle and high schools nationwide by 2022.
To further encourage energy efficiency, a wide range of public facilities will be remodeled with eco-friendly materials.
These ambitious plans are expected to create 660-thousand new jobs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 12 million tons over the next five years.
PLUS, renewable sources mainly solar, wind and hydrogen will be the country's go-to energy source.
"Despite the global car market taking a hit from COVID-19, Korea's electric car sales in the first half of 2020 rose by more than 80 percent. The government will put its utmost efforts into making our eco-friendly car industry the global leader."
More eco-friendly future mobility will be secured, including over a million electric cars.
South Korea will supply 200-thousand hydrogen vehicles and set up charging infrastructure across the country.
The government will also adopt green tech for buildings and city infrastructure so that South Korea has 25 'smart green cities.'
