Gimmelwald is a beautiful mountain village, 1363 metres above sea level and situated above Stechelberg in the Lauterbrunnen Valley in the Swiss Alps. This traditional Swiss village is one of the few remaining traffic-free villages in the Jungfrau region. Gimmelwald can be found at the foot of the UNESCO World Heritage Site the Jungfrau-Aletsch Protected Area and is part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage as an example of and Allemanic, Walser settlement. Gimmelwald is also part of the municipality of Lauterbrunnen, which includes the villages of Wengen, Mürren, Isenfluh and Stechelberg.
To travel to Gimmelwald you will need to board the Schilthorn Cable Car at Stechelberg, which stops at Gimmelwald on it’s way up to Mürren, Birg and Piz Gloria. The revolving summit restaurant was made famous as Blofeld’s headquarters in the Bond movie ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ and has attracted many tourists since filming. Adventurers also love the challenge of the Birg Thrill Walk, a walkway suspended 984 feet above ground. This idyllic farming village is a popular tourist destination in summer for hiking and paragliding and in winter for skiing and snowboarding.
