J-WAFS is pleased to announce the First Place Winner of our 2021 World Water Day Video Competition: Inventing Adaptive Hydraulics to Improve Pump Efficiency submitted by Hilary Johnson, a PhD candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
About the Research:
Centrifugal pumps consume 6% of annual US electricity. A significant source of inefficiency is limited control to meet varying flow demand. We address this with a suite of tools to improve pumping system efficiency, including ongoing development and testing of a patent pending variable volute mechanism which adapts a pump to optimal geometry.
