What are our five strategic themes, and why do they matter?
Our five year strategy sets out long-term, high-level priorities for how we will deliver our vision for an outstanding research and innovation system in the UK that provides everyone with the opportunity to contribute and to benefit, enriching lives locally, nationally and globally.
UKRI is supporting an ambitious set of programmes that include new interdisciplinary activity to amplify and connect existing UKRI investments relating to each theme.
This additional investment spans six years from 2023 to 2029, with an initial commitment of up to £185 million from 2023 to 2025.
Co-investment from our councils’ core budgets, and other funding partners such as government departments and international funding agencies, are raising our overall investment yet further.
This will make the strategic themes one of our largest and most exciting investment approaches, spanning the whole of our activity, at scale and over time.
