Talk by Prof. Trisha Meyer (Director of the Research Centre for Digitalisation, Democracy and Innovation, Brussels School of Governance (Vrije Universiteit Brussel); Principal Investigator, European Digital Media Observatory for Belgium and Luxembourg (EDMO BELUX)) on the EU, social media and disinformation, as part of the BSoG | AWS lecture series on digital transformation in the EU.
Description of talk
Disinformation amplifies societal distrust in politics, science and media. In this lecture, we discuss the complexity of tackling disinformation, provide insight into the profound way in which social media is shaping our digital public sphere and assess the EU's approach to disinformation and platform regulation against this backdrop.
BSoG | AWS lecture series on digital transformation in the EU
This lecture series on digital transformation in the EU is the result of a partnership between the Centre for Digitalisation, Democracy and Innovation at the Brussels School of Governance (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and the AWS Institute.
We explore how digitalisation is transforming our public sectors and societies, ranging from Public Trust and Disinformation to Digital Sovereignty and Ethical AI, and provide snapshots of the latest research and policy insights, and thus serve as primers, on the respective topic.
In each video, we answer five key questions: What are we discussing? Why is the topic important? What does research tell us? How does digitalisation in this field impact the public sector and the EU? What are the key takeaways and next steps?
