Construction of the Waikawa Marina extension is about to commence, providing an additional 251 berths for boaties in Marlborough New Zealand.
Having spent countless hours underwater, Waikawa Dive Centre owner Stuart Scaife was aware of the potential impact to marine life that found itself within the construction zone.
Stuart took it upon himself to organise a mass transplantation of the affected marine life to Curious Cove and began obtaining the required approval, consent and support to achieve this noble goal, partnering with Port Marlborough, Te Ātiawa o te waka a maui, and Cawthron Institute to arrange the Marine Life Move.
Eighty people from all walks of life showed up on a tranquil Sunday morning alongside thirteen vessels of all sizes, volunteering their time and skill sets to achieve Stuart's vision.
We were fortunate enough to capture the event and we hope this video inspires more people to take initiative to protect the natural environment.
