A tour of pubs in the area around Fenchurch Street (and its eponymous station) in the City of London, as usual looking at their architecture, interiors and history.
Along the way we'll look at the history of the area, include the warehouses of the East India Company, Fenchurch Street station and the railway line running into it, the monastic house of the Crutched Friars, the Navy Office (where Samuel Pepys once lived and worked), and the old docks around Billingsate Market. All of these tell us something about the history of these pubs and in particular why most of them are so named.
Almost all of these pubs have much longer histories than you might at first think.
