What is corrected age in a preterm baby? When a baby is born at below 37 weeks of maturity (gestation), we call them preterm-of course, 40 weeks is full term, and so we reduce any number of weeks below 40 weeks, to obtain the corrected age. The more preterm the baby, the longer the correction is needed (for example, a 32 weeker might need correction till 1 year, while a 25 weeker would need correction till 2 years of age). We mainly use the corrected age to review their growth and development, so we are not worried unnecessarily by the expected lag in progress.
