Iran has reportedly agreed with South Korea to unfreeze and retake at least part of its once-frozen assets in Seoul.
They are said to be in the order of several billion U.S. dollars.
Iran's state media says the agreement was reached on Monday with a South Korean ambassador.
Yoon Jung-min reports.
Iran's central bank says it has reached an agreement with South Korea to unfreeze Iranian assets in South Korean banks after weeks of "intense negotiations".
Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency reported its central bank governor Abdolnasser Hemmati met the South Korean Ambassador to Iran, Ryu Jeong-hyun, on Monday... and agreed on how they can transfer and use part of the frozen assets.
It says specific destinations and the amounts were determined.
According to the report, Ryu said the South Korean government was ready to take "any measures" to free all the frozen assets without cap or limitations.
While welcoming the agreement, Tehran reportedly said it would seek damages from South Korean banks caused by "non-cooperation" in recent years.
Following the imposition of U.S. sanctions on Tehran, Iranian assets worth around 7 billion U.S. dollars were frozen in South Korean banks.
In January, Iran seized a South Korean-flagged vessel in the Persian Gulf, citing alleged environment pollution.
It denied any link between the seizure and the asset issue, but has constantly complained about the frozen assets.
