Paraproctitis is another word for infections around the rectum. Proctos means rectum. Rectum is the last part of large intestine then it continues as the anal canal. So anal canal and the last part of the rectum there are some glands around that and they can get infected. This indicates inflammation most of the times it is because of infection. And proctitis means inflammation of the rectum but here para means around the rectum. So it is infections around the rectum are called paraproctitis. Now what are the causes? There are something called anal glands which they get infected, they all form pus and pus can spread in between the sphincters or traverse through the sphincters. They can go above the anorectal ring into the pelvic area and also all that infections are caused by bacteria it's called as paraproctitis.
