President Mwai Kibaki has finally bowed to pressure from Prime Minister Raila Odinga and agreed to drop all rebel ODM MPs from the cabinet. A mini cabinet reshuffle announced by President Kibaki after consultations with Odinga saw suspended Higher Education Minister William Ruto sacked and replaced by Eldoret East MP Prof Margret Kamar. Odinga also promoted nominated MP Musa Sirma to the cabinet in the East African Community docket, replacing Prof Hellen Sambili of UDM. Ruto immediately dismissed the move as inconsequential, saying he had not been dropped because of poor performance but political intrigues. Francis Gachuri reports.
