Science fiction author, Octavia Butler wrote novels that challenged many societal norms of her time—many that still exist to this day. Winner of the MacArthur “Genius” Grant, receiving the PEN West Lifetime Achievement Award for her body of work, Octavia E. Butler is recognized as one of the greatest science fiction story tellers of her time. Novels such as “Kindred,” “Parable of the Sower,” and the Patternist series have been considered classics of the genre. This video is a short introduction to her work and legacy.
