Shukto as we bengalis call this dish is a traditional cuisine that gets served in any bengali occasion preferably during lunch along with bengali meal. According to bengali food tradition Shukto is the first thing to be served/consumed with plain rice and can be called as a bengali appetizer.
There are many variations of this recipe but they share the similar taste. Sweet and bitter in taste along with a creamy textured gravy makes a perfect Shukto. The variations in the number of vegetables and spices that goes into the making of a perfect Shukto is something that gives this recipe its distinctive taste. Radhuni (celery seeds), posto (poppy seeds) & mustard along with milk forms the secret ingredients that goes into making the ultimate Shukto.
