The anaerobic digestion and composting plant of the municipal undertaking Meerlanden, in Holland, enables the production of green gas and compost from organic waste collected in the nearby cities. The biogas generated by the fermentation process is purified and transformed into biomethane, which is used to fuel the organic (wet) waste collection lorries. Compost, heat, hot water and carbon dioxide are the other products generated. This is therefore a fully-fledged virtuous circle which generates a large number of resources from waste.
