Crown Prince Christian of Denmark, the eldest son of King Frederick and Queen Mary, has achieved a significant milestone in his life, entering a new phase of adult responsibilities. Like other young royals, Prince Christian has taken on new roles, and one recent accomplishment was obtaining his driver's license.
Upon turning 18 in October of last year, he successfully passed both the theoretical and practical exams, granting him the privilege to drive his own car. Recently, a photograph captured Prince Christian outside the majestic Amalienborg Palace, his residence, accompanied by his parents and his three younger siblings, Isabella, Vincent, and Josephine.
During the celebration of Princess Benedikte's 80th birthday, a formal dinner was held at one of the four palaces that make up the Amalienborg complex. Numerous guests and members of the media gathered outside, capturing the essence of the event. Their surprise was boundless when they saw Crown Prince Christian behind the wheel of his very own BMW. Although the Royal Palace has not officially confirmed it, Danish media reports suggest that the car was a gift from his parents to commemorate his coming of age. The specific model, an X1 variant from the renowned German manufacturer, features a sporty design, automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, 300 horsepower, and a fuel consumption ranging from 7.7 to 7.9 liters per 100 kilometers. The price of the BMW X1 m35i starts at €70,000 and can increase based on additional options and trim details.
Not only did Prince Christian receive gifts from his parents, but his grandmother also surprised him. The Frederick VIII Palace reported that King Frederick, Queen Margrethe, and Prince Christian took a private tour of the National History Museum at Frederick VIII Castle. During the visit, Prince Christian revealed his own coat of arms, which was subsequently added to the wall of the Royal Danish Knighthoods Chapel in the palace church. The elephant symbol, previously belonging to his late grandfather Prince Henrik, now adorns the chapel, alongside Queen Margrethe's monogram and Prince Christian's personal coat of arms. As a member of the royal family, he can now wear the rosette of the Order of the Elephant on the lapel of his jacket on special occasions. It is customary for members of the Danish royal family to display elephants on the ends of their ribbons, symbolizing their presence during significant events such as Prince Christian's 18th birthday celebration at Christiansborg Palace.
The Shield representing Prince Christian's membership in the Order of the Elephant and the Order of Dannebrog, carefully crafted by royal coat of arms artist Ronnie Skovgaard Andersen, was unveiled. The intricate process involved sketching the design in pencil, transferring it with chalk onto a metal plate, and meticulously applying red, blue, green, black, and silver paint, as well as gilding. Prince Christian proudly wore his Insignia of the Order of the Elephant during a formal dinner held in honor of his milestone birthday last October. His younger siblings, Princess Isabella (17) and the twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine (13), will become Knights of the Order of the Elephant once they turn 18, following their father's ascension to the throne on January 14th.
As the first in line to the throne, Prince Christian assumes significant responsibilities. While his parents encourage him to continue his education at Øregård Gymnasium, a prestigious boarding school founded in the 19th century, circumstances led him to leave Herlufsholm School, where he had been studying since August 2022. Currently, he attends Aarhus Katedralskole, the first co-educational school in Denmark, ensuring he receives a well-rounded education. Just a few weeks ago, Prince Christian made headlines when he was photographed dancing at a party organized by the Danish DJ duo, Two Left Hands, held at the Copenhagen Forum.
