The antivirus market is ever-innovative, to say the least. Therefore, my search for the best antivirus continues...starting with Norton antivirus. I’ve reviewed this provider a few times, but let’s take a fresh look under its hood in this Norton review 2022.

Norton 2022 security features & practises:

🔒 Starting with their real-time threat protection. Now, this is a feature I generally expect from antivirus providers. Norton actually uses AI machine learning to monitor a whole host of threats, like spyware, ransomware and more.

🔒 Another advanced feature is their Smart Firewall. Again, not all competitors come with this feature, and Norton’s is a little different. It is a two-way silent firewall that monitors both sent and received network traffic.

🔒 Dark Web Monitoring - though it isn’t 100% accurate as it scans only certain dark web databases for leaked credentials, it's nice it isn’t limited to your email address.

🔒 The last notable feature I’d like to comment on is the Secure Cloud storage & backup. Hugely customizable; I decided to just use the automatic backup setting. This really helps protect files from ransomware in particular because it saves a copy to Norton’s servers in case a cybercriminal happens to encrypt them.

Norton has very recently added an unexpected feature that sparked a little debate - Norton Crypto. This is available on PC and comes with the 360 package.

✅ What does it do?
Essentially, it allows you to safely mine cryptocurrencies, by adding your device to a crypto-mining pool. Once you’ve started to earn cryptocurrencies, all you’ve got to do is transfer it to your cloud-based Norton wallet.

🟠 Why it might be considered controversial?
This feature is said to use more electricity, and could potentially affect your computer's performance. Furthermore, it’s only available in the US, and your PC has to meet certain requirements to even access this feature.

✅ Is it something you should be concerned about as a user who doesn’t mine crypto?
A good thing - it’s an opt-in feature, so the average user won’t really have to worry about any of this.

🔥 Norton protection & reputation:
Now, Norton 360 is often hailed as one of the best antimalware options. But, heavy is the head that wears the crown...so do the results actually live up to the hype. Looking at AV comparative results, it’s a strong yes…Dubbed a “Top Product” by comparatives back in 2021....I wonder if they got some kind of plaque, or...little virus trophy…

Anyway, most notably, Norton 360 scored 6/6 in comparative real-world testing against malware infections such as worms or trojan horses. And, considering the industry average is 99.8% for 0-day threat protection, they’re doing pretty well.

Performance and detection rates are only part of the puzzle. Often I get asked “what’s the best antivirus for PC or mobile.” So...

🖥️ With all the desktop apps you’ll find an intuitive layout, the main features are easily accessible.

📱 Then the mobile apps, in all honesty, they’re pretty excellent. To be more specific, the Android app has a little more features than the iOS app, notably the real-time malware protection, but that’s mainly down to Apple's built-in restrictions.
