The Kenya Revenue Authority will appeal last week’s ruling on deduction of 20 percent withholding tax on winnings by those who gamble. Betting Firms had filed an appeal before the tribunal challenging KRA’s interpretation of the term “winnings” as was amended by the Finance Act 2018. This emerged as the new Finance Act 2019 introduced another 20 percent excise duty on the amount staked by those who bet.
