This year’s newcomers face a vexing learning curve to be game-ready to play the pack in time for the opener, and getting so many new players up to speed defensively is one of Interim UVA basketball coach Ron Sanchez’s biggest challenges.
“It's not just about the system, it's about the details within the system,” Sanchez said Monday. “But I think guys are doing a great job of picking things up. There's a lot of energy. They understand that this program is built on defense.”
An overhaul of the offense, one that starts with getting the ball up the court more quickly, was already in the works all summer. It’s a shift that Sanchez and his fellow assistants had put time and effort into crafting and installing.
