The grim reaper - a traditional harbinger of death - stalked a Florida beach on Friday (May 1).

The black-clad figure was acted out by local attorney Daniel Uhlfelder as a protest against what he considers to be premature reopening of the area's beaches after a shutdown was imposed on March 19.

Uhlfelder, who is an advocate for the state's beaches, says its still too early for them to be reopened as the region is still battling coronavirus.

The menacing black cloak, mask and and scythe were in stark contrast to the swimwear of beach goers who seemed unfazed by the protest.

Local officials urged people to continue to engage in social distancing.
