Mississippi River Sharks is the newest film from Ozark Sharks director Misty Talley. It's another freshwater shark movie which isn't where I prefer my shark movies to be set, but it's smarter than any other movie you're likely to see during Sharknado week, and it has actual humor beyond, "Hey look at this ridiculous shark thing we put in our movie!" (not that there's anything wrong with that per say.) Misty Talley's IMDB page claims she was the first woman to direct a Syfy channel original movie (Zombie Shark 2015) but I take issue with that, because Mary Lambert directed Mega Python vs. Gatoroid for The Asylum and Syfy four years before Zombie Shark came out. Mega Python vs Gatoroid, Killer Ants, and Ozark Sharks are the only genre films that I'm aware of written, directed by, and starring women. Let's get some more of that going on, eh?
