Based on the response I received from my "Should I Sell the Shen Hao" video, I have decided to keep it. Which means that my super bright Maxwell Screen will stay in that camera. Since I like to shoot with wide angle lenses fairly frequently, I decided that I would add a fresnel lens to my Intrepid 4x5 Camera to even out the brightness a bit.
This is very easy to do, but it did take a bit of modification to the fresnel lens itself so that it would fit between the "notches" in the Intrepid ground glass holder. A tiny bit of dremeling solved that and I was good to go. As you'll see at the end of the video, adding a relatively inexpensive fresnel lens can make a big difference in the brightness of your screen...making it much easier to compose and focus. Fresnel lenses are readily available at places such as B&H and many other smaller dealers that carry large format gear. I bought mine at The View Camera Store (viewcamerastore.com), although as of filming this video, he is out of stock.
