[ Ссылка ] Here Bob and Matt visit Russo & Steele in Scottsdale, AZ. We saw many fine cars - many, many fine cars. Here we noticed a 409 car that was made out to look like the Holly Farms Nascar Mystery Motor car. It is a recreation, but a nice vehicle paying homage to the original Junior Johnson car. The 409 was ruling the track in the early 60's, and when the cubic inch limit was increased to 427 the 409 blocks were stroked to 427. Those engines were doing well with 600 horsepower, but they took it a step further with the Mystery Motor, of which only about a dozen were made.

The Junior Johnson car had one of those engines, at over 163 mph around Daytona, these cars were doing 5 to 7 miles per hour faster than everyone else. Since only a dozen were built there weren't many spare parts, one of the Mystery Motors lost a water pump at Daytona, and thus lost the race. These motors were the testbed and origin of the Mark IV that came about in 1965 that gave us the 396, 427, and 454 engines.
