This is a video walking tour of the Aztec Ruins National Monument in Aztec, New Mexico. This World Heritage Site lies on the western bank of the Animas River in Aztec, New Mexico, about twelve miles northeast of Farmington. The site covers over 318 acres and is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Over 900 years old, the ancestral Pueblo Great house consisted of over 400 masonry rooms. Archaeological evidence puts the construction of the ruins in the 12th and 13th centuries. Incorrectly duubbed the "Aztec Ruins" by 19th century American settlers, they are actually Puebloan-built.
