Aerobic Vs Anaerobic Bacteria
By Dr. Umair Khan
Bacteriology
Microbiology
Aerobic Bacteria:
Require oxygen to survive
Use oxygen as a final electron acceptor in cellular respiration
Produce more ATP than anaerobic bacteria
Found in environments with high oxygen levels, such as the air and water
Anaerobic Bacteria:
Do not require oxygen to survive
Use other electron acceptors, such as nitrate or sulfate, in cellular respiration
Produce less ATP than aerobic bacteria
Found in environments with low oxygen levels, such as the intestines, the mouth, and soil
Aerobic Bacteria:
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Escherichia coli
Lactobacillus
Anaerobic Bacteria:
Clostridium botulinum
Bacteroides fragilis
Propionibacterium acnes
