Starting with a pod of hippo, and ending in the company of the Maasai, this short burst of wildlife and landscapes captures what lies in store when you visit Tanzania.
Our safari specialist Mark returned to Tanzania, and more specifically the southern Selous Game Reserve, to rediscover its species and explore both by vehicle and on the water.
As you'll see from the wildlife-spotting experiences Mark captured as he travelled, here you can encounter a host of animal species from lilac-breasted rollers to giraffe, lion to wild dog, water buffalo to elephant. After all, this is Africa's biggest game reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its undeveloped wilderness. But, despite these credentials, and boasting the continent's largest lion population, it remains largely unvisited and gives you an opportunity to enjoy a safari in one of Africa's remotest locations.
Water, in the guise of the Rufiji River and the many tributary channels and lakes it spawns, is very much part of the experience here. Much of your safari can take place from a boat.
