The Story of Rapunzel: Summary
Once upon a time, a woodcutter and his wife lived in a small house atop a hill, overlooking a vast, dark forest. On the forest's edge lived a powerful enchantress, feared by all in the kingdom. The enchantress had a magnificent garden filled with fragrant flowers and rare herbs. The woodcutter’s wife, longing for beauty in their barren, rocky surroundings, envied the enchantress's lush garden. One day, she noticed rows of rampion plants with wide leaves and purple flowers. Craving their roots, she dreamed of tasting them with vinegar. Her desire grew overwhelming, leading her husband to sneak into the garden to steal rampion for her. However, the enchantress caught him in the act. As punishment, she demanded their unborn child in return. When the baby was born, the enchantress took her, naming her Rapunzel. Raised in isolation within a tower, Rapunzel grew into a beautiful young woman with long, golden hair. Her tale of longing, adventure, and love was about to unfold.
