We visited BTM / Madiwala lake last week; this video shows a glimpse of what we have seen in and around the famous lake, which is also one of the largest in Bengaluru. We reached madiwala lake in the morning, and the entry fee was waived off at that time, as we went there at around 6 AM. Like many other parks in Bengaluru, entry is free in Madiwala lake from early morning to 9 AM and after 6 PM. After 9 AM, the forest department, current managers of madiwala lake, charges a fee of RS 10 for adults and RS 5 for children for entry into the lake and its surrounding. Boating is also there in BTM lake after 9.30 AM, and the authority has a fee of 50 RS per head for this activity. Children are not allowed to take boating in madiwala lake, but we have seen many people flouting this rule. Madiwala lake is home to dozens of native and migratory birds. There are the birds we have spotted in madiwala lake.
Purple Swamphen, purple heron, sunbirds, Spot-billed Pelican, Greater cormorant, Pinne darter, kite and a lot of doves.
We have also seen many kinds of fishes, butterflies, worms, spiders and insects. Fishing is not allowed in Madiwala lake, nor can you feed them. However, we have seen some children giving bread pieces to fish. We have also learned that the forest department has licensed fishermen in Madiwala lake, and the public can buy the catch from a nearby store. Madiwala lake has a children's play area; a walking trail is also present. It also hosts hundreds of trees and flowering plants. It is a pure delight to walk around the beautiful madiwala lake in the early morning while seeing the sunrise and feeling the smell of night jasmines that bloomed the previous night. During our visit, we also found a protected area inside madiwala lake park where the forest department t is growing a few sandal trees.
Thankfully there weren't many mosquitos in madiwala lake when we visited. But insects like the thorny caterpillar often hang down from the trees. Also, watch out for snakes, especially around the grassy and unmaintained area on the right side of the madiwala lake entrance gate, where joggers and visitors don't explore much.
