Hello there my artsy friends. Today we are taking a look at Faber-Castell Goldfaber Aqua 24 piece watercolor pencil set. I was really excited to try these after trying and loving the colored pencils from this line so much. As you all probably already know Faber Castell has been producing art products for decades, and has a big reputation in the art pencil world.
This tin of 24 pencils are some of the better performing student grade watercolor pencils I have had the pleasure of working with. Directly from their creative studios division, I believe this product to be of super high quality, but priced to help reach any artistic household.
Pros:
* Super vibrant and bright pigment lay down
* Semi - creamy lead (although most watercolor pencils are known to be a little scratchy)
* Leads hold up to pressure without easily breaking
* High pigment payoff after water if added
* Colors mix cleanly without gumming up
* Pigment blends well both dry and wet (Making the 24 or 48 count plenty to work with)
* Pigment does smudge but not as much as other WC pencils along the same quality
* 24 pencils in the set that work well as an overall set if you don't want to to purchase all 48
Cons:
* No lightfast information included on pencils, in package, or on website (Packaging and website just claims that the pencils are extremely lightfast)
* No color names on pencil barrels (Although you can obtain this information from the website by matching color numbers)
* Only 48 colors in the Goldfaber Aqua line (In case you like using a larger line of colors)
In conclusion, I highly recommend the pencils. I enjoyed us them very much. I found myself reaching for them over and over. I have since put them in a coffee tin on my desk as my go to watercolor pencils taking the place of my favorite student brand so far. These would be a great gift for an artist of any level, and are not so costly that they will break the bank. I also suggest maybe buying the 24 set of aqua to accompany the 24 set of colored pencils. They are a banging pair to use together.
